Eye1st Vision & Laser Center

Presbyopic Lens Exchange (PLEx) is a solution for the treatment of Presbyopia. Presbyopia is the loss of flexibility in the eye's natural lens which happens as we age. As the lens loses its flexibility, our eyes lose their natural ability to focus on near, intermediate and distance objects.
With the onset of Presbyopia, many patients begin wearing glasses for clearer vision. In addition, bifocals may also become necessary for patients who are myopic (nearsighted) or hyperopic (farsighted).
Presbyopic Lens Exchange can correct Presbyopia so that patients can reduce - or even eliminate - their dependence on glasses or bifocals!
Unlike refractive vision correction procedures (LASIK, for example) which change the shape of your cornea, Presbyopic Lens Exchange works on the lens inside of the eye to correct your vision.
The natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL), so vision correction is precise and permanent. lenses are available in a variety of powers, so a wide range of correction needs can be treated.
Presbyopic Lens Exchange restores the eyes full range of vision and completely prevents cataracts. The actual procedure is fast and painless, and it is performed on an outpatient basis in our local surgical center. After the Presbyopic Lens Exchange procedure, most patients return to their normal activities the following day.
Presbyopic Lens Exchange is a much better visual experience than bifocal contact lenses.
At Eye1st Vision & Laser, we offer Crystalens and ReSTOR lenses for the restoration of your full range of near, intermediate and distance vision. For more information about these remarkable lenses, visit our Premium IOL frequently asked questions page.
Presbyopic patients who want to eliminate their need for corrective lenses may be candidates for Presbyopic Lens Exchange. Patients who are not considered candidates for LASIK, due to certain vision conditions, may also be candidates for Presbyopic Lens Exchange.
To be a candidate, one must generally:
- be in overall good health
- be experiencing diminishing quality in their vision
- be experiencing an increased need for bifocals or reading glasses
